When Christianie moved from Texas to California for her new job, she never thought she’d face homelessness. “The job turned out to be very abusive, so I had to leave,” she says.
She didn’t know anyone in California and had nowhere to stay. Christianie came to the Rescue Mission and entered our Life Transformation Program, where the value of community deeply impacted her.
“Before I came to the Rescue Mission, I kept to myself,” she shares. Being surrounded by people who share her faith in God gave her peace and eased her anxieties. “I’m comfortable socializing with others because they are like-minded. They love to pray and read the Bible.”
Aside from being more confident about her communication skills and speaking her mind, Christianie is also learning how to manage her time, which will help her personally and professionally.
She is grateful to the Rescue Mission for providing everything she needs so that she can focus on herself. Christianie also appreciates the support and encouragement from staff that have positively changed how she feels about herself and the world.
“They are giving me a place to stay and taking care of me. I don’t lack anything.”
With a fresh outlook and a strong faith in herself and in God, Christianie is excited about her future. She plans to learn more about Scripture and continue with her profession while going back to school.
