Bequests

A charitable bequest is a gift to charity made through your will. It is a simple way to give, and it offers you an opportunity to continue supporting our Rescue Mission well beyond your lifetime. You retain full use of your assets during life, so there is no out-of-pocket cost. A bequest can even offer benefits to you and your heirs.

  • Charitable bequests are 100% deductible for estate tax purposes.
  • A charitable bequest could reduce or eliminate estate taxes.
  • Bequests can preserve more of your assets for loved ones.

Adding a charitable bequest to your will is simple. You can name the charity as beneficiary when you create a will, or your advisor can draft a codicil to attach to your existing will.

The following language may be helpful if you choose to leave a bequest to the Bay Area Rescue Mission.

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Bay Area Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1112, Richmond, CA 94802 for its general purposes the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal wherever located [or state fraction, percentage, dollar amount, or describe gift].”
